Setting up your original PlayStation VR headset on a PlayStation 5 console allows you to experience excellent virtual reality games with improved loading times. While the hardware was initially designed for last-generation consoles, the transition to next-gen hardware is relatively straightforward once you have the right components. Preparing your gaming space properly beforehand ensures a smoother configuration process from start to finish.
Acquiring the Mandatory Camera Adapter
The standard PlayStation 5 console lacks the proprietary auxiliary port needed to plug in the older PlayStation Camera directly. To bridge this gap, you must obtain a special PlayStation Camera Adapter that converts the cord into a standard USB type-A connection. Sony provides these specialized adapters to existing headset owners through their official support channels to ensure hardware compatibility.
It is important to note that the newer PlayStation 5 HD Camera is entirely incompatible with the original virtual reality tracking system. Therefore, keeping your original camera active remains necessary for accurate motion tracking inside your virtual space. Once the adapter arrives, plug your camera into it and attach the USB end into one of the rear ports on your console.
Connecting the Processor Unit Cables
Before moving forward with the remaining wires, ensure your PlayStation 5 console is completely powered down rather than sitting in rest mode. Disconnect the existing HDMI cable from the back of your console and insert it directly into the processor unit port labeled HDMI TV. This setup ensures that your television still receives a clear video signal through the secondary box.
